While the first season was loosely based on the first half of Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid, this season was inspired by the second half, introducing a character named Michal who filled the role of Lucia's rival. Finally, the themes differed in that the series focused more on the trials of losing love, losing heart (literally and figuratively), and good decisions for one person always hurting another. The secondary trio became a source of comic relief rather than plot complications, and the series' new "twist" was that all the new villains had image songs. This season differed strongly from the first, mainly in the quality of animation, especially in the last few episodes. Produced by TV Aichi, it was shown on the TV Tokyo Network from to writing jobs. The stories in this season correspond to chapters 21 to 30 of the manga. You don't just get the good guy's story, but also the bad guy's story in a way.Īll in all, Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch is a great anime, and I was very happy with it.Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch Pure (マーメイドメロディー ぴちぴちピッチ ピュア Māmeido Merodī Pichi Pichi Pitchi Pyua) is the name given to the second season of the anime version of Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch, which in turn is based from the manga series created by Michiko Yokote, with artwork by Pink Hanamori. And actually, the Dark Lovers are funny most of the time. The forbidden romance between Yuri, a Dark Lover, and Hippo, Lucia's sort-of sidekick/protector, is really sweet. What I really liked about this anime is how the villains aren't like the Sailor Moon-type 'Villain of the Day.' It's always the same ones, the Dark Lovers, except when the very annoying, very lesbian Black Beauty Sisters appear (but the BBS actually have a pretty decent song). Hanon can get very annoying: Her infatuation with Mitzsuki is very shallow, she seems to only like him because of his looks, and it's nothing like the romance between Katio and Lucia. She provides a lot of the comedic relief to the anime. The best voice is Lina/Rina, who is also a great character. The best song, Legend of the Mermaid, isn't used for a long time, but it's great when they start singing it again. After awhile, you grow to love him though, because you can see him and Lucia becoming more romantically involved. It's very easy to get angry with Kaito, who in my opinion treats Lucia (the main character, who is the Pink Pearl Princess and is Lucia the human) kind of meanly and gets mad if Lucia doesn't bring him a bento or bread that she made or whatever. You would like it if you watched Sailor Moon or Wedding Peach, but the romance isn't as pleasing. Okay, so MMPPP is a great anime, if you like magical girl shoujo romance. Still, there were obvious flaws that could've been fixed. (Personally I liked Pure more than this season.) It was an okay anime, it did introduce me to all the beautiful songs in MMPPP. When the last episode first aired, it was already confirmed that a second season, Pure, would be in the works. Overall: Obviously the ending was anticipated. Luckily, Wikipedia has already identified the episodes important to the storyline so you can figure it out from there. At some point, you'll realize that there's too many fillers. (Did they expect girls to love the main trio more than the four Mermaids in the back?)Įnjoyment: IT WILL GET ANNOYING. Noel and Coco were captured so they're stuck with the enemy until the finale. The problem is, for 52 episodes straight, ONLY LUCIA, HANON, AND RINA APPEAR THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE SEASON!! What about the other four? Well, Caren appears halfway through the season, but she distances herself from them. Basically, the Mermaids' objective is to unite the Seven Mermaid Princesses in order to defeat the enemy. The MMPPP songs can really get to you, even though they're all about love.Ĭharacter: This is what bugs me. While their voices are high-pitched, Lucia's is lower, unless you count her screaming. Sound: What I found unusual was that Lucia's voice is different compared to other Magical Girl heroines. Doumoto Kaito with the most repetitive hairstyle of any Bishounen.) To me, the dresses for Lucia, Hanon, and Rina are full of many colors! (Practically every shade of pink, aqua, and green respectively.) On the other hand, the characters' appearances Other than that, it's all cheesy.Īrt: This depends on how you look at it. The unique part of this anime is that the Mermaids don't attack, they SING, and their songs are painful to the villains' ears. Story: Basically it's another 'Magical Girl' anime plot, a girl who has the ability to transform must fight this evil group of villains with her friends/comrades as a Super Sentai team.
